How To Set Up Film Registration On a High-Speed Packing Machine

February 20, 2023

On films containing images or information that has been pre-printed, film registration is utilized. Printing process differences, film stretch, film slippage during acceleration, and other issues can all cause the images on the completed bag to move away from their optimal aesthetic and marketing positioning.

The registration mark offers a way to make minute alterations to the actual end positioning of the seal and cut on a bag. This may be done in order to ensure that the bag is completely sealed. The length of the procedure is the only factor considered when there is neither printing nor graphics on the bag.

Film alignment and tracking adjustment devices are often included in the portion that is designated for film registration. This is a common configuration. These are utilized so that the film is kept in the appropriate location on the forming tube at all times.

Steps to Set Up Film Registration

Before beginning this maintenance, make it a point to familiarize yourself with the lock-out tag-out protocols and personal protective multihead weigher packing machine, linear weigher packing machine, and vertical packaging machine rules established by your business. Under no circumstances should work ever be performed within the machine compartment of a powered and initialized machine.

Under no circumstances should any safety switches or relays be circumvented. It is possible to sustain serious injuries or even lose one's life if one does not exercise adequate caution when working on the equipment and does not follow all of the necessary safety precautions.

Preparation

Step 1:

Connect electricity, set vertical and horizontal heating temperature according to film material.

Step 2:

Connect compressed air pipe to the access of diad at the back of packaging machine.

Film Installation

Step 1

Press the button of axis for putting film roll, take off the screw.

Step 2

Put the film roll onto axis.

Step 3

Fix the film roll with screw and lock the screw with spanner.

Step 4

Cross the film as schematic drawing below to bag former, cut out a triangle on film that the film can come cross the collar of bag former easliy. Pull down the film to cover bag former.

Step 5 Electric eye and sensitivity adjustment

Notice: It is used for checking color code and positioning the place to cut off film. Because the film that customer uses is different from our factory uses for testing machine, the electric eye may not detect the photocell, and it needs to set the sensitivity.

1. Loose the electric eye locking handle, move the photocell eye and let it face the basic color of film.

2. Set basic color of film: Turn the knob on electric eye as anticlockwise direction until the end, the indicator light will be turned off. Then turn the knob slowly as clockwise direction, the indicator light will change from dark to be light, now its sensitivity is strongest. Now turn the knob as clockwise direction to 1/3 circle, it is best.

3. Detect of photocell: Pull forward of the film, let the light beam of electric eye shine on the photocell, if the indictor light change from dark to be light, it means that the electric eye is working well. The bag length should be set as X+20mm above.

Step 6:

Test the machine by starting it up. When the sensor successfully scans the eye mark, the indication signal box that is located on the registration page should light up. This corresponds to the indicator light that is located on the sensor.

Step 7:

If you want the visuals in your video to be centered, utilize the offset setting that is located on the touch screen. By doing this, the images on the bag will be centered between the top and bottom cuts. The length of the offset will change depending on where the film's eye mark is placed.

Final Words

These instructions are useful for setting up film registration on a high-speed packing machine. If these instructions do not relate to the equipment you are using, then the next step is to consult either the owner's guide for your individual high-speed packing machine or the Smartweigh packaging machinery service department of the manufacturer for instructions pertaining to that equipment.
