Choosing a nuts packaging machine can look straightforward at first: select a weigher, connect it to a bagging machine and compare the speeds offered by different suppliers.
In practice, that is where many projects start to go wrong.
A machine may run quickly with empty bags but slow down once it handles oily peanuts, fragile cashews or nitrogen-flushed zipper pouches. It may also meet the target weight while giving away more product than expected or creating too many broken pieces.
So, the best machine is not simply the fastest one. It is the system that can consistently produce packs you can actually sell—with the right weight, appearance and seal quality.

Before discussing machine models, it helps to look closely at the product itself.
We often receive requests such as:
“We need a machine for 200-gram bags of nuts.”
That is a useful starting point, but it is not enough to select the right system. Two nuts with the same pack weight can behave very differently during feeding and weighing.
Peanuts and almonds usually flow well and can often support higher packaging speeds. Cashews, walnuts and macadamias are more sensitive to vibration, hopper discharge and long drop distances. Their appearance also tends to have a greater effect on retail value.
Product treatment matters too.
Roasted or oil-seasoned nuts may stick to feed pans and weighing hoppers. Salt, sugar and seasoning powder can build up on contact surfaces or fall into the sealing area. Coated nuts may have an uneven surface that changes how they move through the machine.
These details influence much more than machine hygiene. They can affect weighing stability, packing speed, breakage and seal quality.
Before asking for a final quotation, try to prepare the following information:
For mixed nuts, there is one more question to consider: do the ingredients arrive pre-mixed, or must each ingredient follow a controlled recipe?
If the nuts are already mixed before entering the weigher, the machine mainly controls total pack weight. If every pack must contain a defined amount of almonds, cashews, raisins or other ingredients, the ingredients may need to be weighed separately before being combined.

This table can help you shortlist a configuration, but we would not recommend confirming a machine based on the table alone. Actual nuts and packaging materials should still be tested.
It is easy to focus on the bagging machine because it produces the finished package. However, for most nut applications, the weighing system has a greater influence on product giveaway, breakage and achievable line speed.
If the weigher cannot create the target weight quickly and consistently, installing a faster bagger will not solve the problem.
A 10-head multihead weigher can be suitable for relatively free-flowing nuts and moderate production requirements. A 14-head model provides more possible weight combinations and is often chosen when higher output or tighter weight control is required.
However, more weighing heads do not automatically mean better results.

For example, if a premade pouch machine is already limited by pouch opening, nitrogen flushing or sealing time, increasing the capacity of the weigher may not increase the output of the complete line.
Fragile nuts need a different approach. We normally look at vibration settings, feeding-pan design, hopper opening and the distance the product travels before entering the package. Reducing unnecessary impact can help protect cashews, walnuts and other high-value products.
Oily or coated nuts should also be tested rather than treated like ordinary free-flowing products. A design that works well with raw almonds may need different contact surfaces or feeding settings when handling oil-roasted peanuts.
For recipe-controlled products, a mixed nuts packaging machine can assign different sections of the weigher to different ingredients. This allows the system to control the individual components as well as the final pack weight.
Once the weighing method is clear, the next step is matching it to the package you want to sell.

A vertical packaging machine is often a practical choice for high-volume peanuts, almonds and pistachios packed in pillow bags. It forms bags directly from roll film, which usually keeps packaging-material costs lower.
A premade pouch packaging machine may make more sense for premium cashews, walnuts, macadamias or mixed nuts sold in zipper and stand-up pouches.
There is no universal winner between the two.
A practical way to compare them is to look at the cost per saleable pack—not only the price of the empty bag or the maximum speed shown in the quotation.

A higher-cost premade pouch can still make sense for a premium product with a higher retail margin. For fast-selling peanuts or everyday snack packs, a lower-cost pillow bag may be the more economical choice.

“Up to 80 bags per minute” sounds useful, but it does not tell you how many acceptable packs the line will produce with your nuts and your packaging material.
The actual output can change because of pack weight, nut size, feeding stability, film performance, pouch-opening success, nitrogen-flushing time and downstream equipment.
That is why we prefer to look at four practical results.
Count only the packs that pass the agreed weight, seal and appearance checks.
If a machine produces 80 packs per minute but several packs are rejected because of poor seals or incorrect weight, the number that matters to your factory is the accepted output.
One accurate pack does not prove that the weigher is stable.
Ask to see the weights of a continuous series of packs. This makes it easier to understand both the variation and the average amount of extra product placed in each package.
A few extra grams may appear insignificant, but across thousands of daily packs, unnecessary giveaway can become a major operating cost.
For cashews, walnuts and premium mixed nuts, appearance is part of the product value.
The useful comparison is not simply how many broken pieces appear in the finished bag. Compare the product before it enters the system with the product after packaging. This helps identify how much additional breakage the feeding, weighing and discharge process has caused.
Nitrogen flushing, barrier film and reliable sealing work together. Nitrogen alone cannot protect the product if oil or seasoning contaminates the seal.

We use this as a project reference rather than a standard promise. Your actual speed may be different depending on the nut type, target weight, bag dimensions, film structure and whether nitrogen flushing is required.
Whenever possible, test the machine with the packaging material you plan to use in production.
A film that seals well at a low speed may become unstable when the line runs faster. Premade zipper pouches may look suitable but still need to be tested for reliable opening, filling and top sealing.

A machine may perform well during a short demonstration but still create problems during daily cleaning, product changeovers or integration with existing equipment.

“Made of stainless steel” is not a complete answer.
You also need to see how easily operators can reach the feed pans, hoppers and other product-contact parts. Oil, salt and seasoning dust tend to collect in small gaps, corners and joints.

You may not need every stage immediately. However, it is worth looking at the complete process before confirming the layout.
For example, a faster VFFS machine will not improve factory output if operators cannot collect and pack the finished bags quickly enough. In that situation, case packing—not primary packaging—has become the real bottleneck.
